Base Launches AI Tool for Hands-Free Crypto Wallet Management via Chat

Coinbase's Ethereum Layer 2 network Base has launched Base MCP, a new tool that connects users' Base Accounts to AI clients like ChatGPT, Claude, and Cursor using the Model Context Protocol (MCP). This integration allows users to issue plain-language prompts to AI agents for tasks such as sending funds, swapping tokens, checking balances, reviewing transaction history, and interacting with DeFi applications on Base, eliminating the need to navigate traditional crypto interfaces. At launch, Base MCP supports integrations with DeFi protocols including lending platforms Morpho and Moonwell, decentralized exchange Uniswap, and perpetuals trading platform Avantis. Users can supply assets to vaults, manage liquidity positions, and trade perpetual futures through conversational AI. Base frames this as a step toward AI-native internet interfaces, suggesting chat-based agents could become a primary method for onchain app discovery and distribution, simplifying crypto onboarding by abstracting wallet management and protocol navigation complexity.
