Ethereum Institutional Launches as Second Nonprofit in Nine Days, Backed by BitMine, SharpLink, and Lubin

On July 1, 2026, Ethereum Institutional launched as an independent nonprofit aiming to accelerate institutional adoption of Ethereum, its L2s, and applications. This follows the June 22 launch of Ethlabs, a research-focused nonprofit. Both organizations share anchor funders, including BitMine, SharpLink Gaming, and Ethereum co-founder Joe Lubin. BitMine is the largest corporate ETH holder with ~5.7 million ETH (4.7% of supply), and SharpLink added 10,000 ETH just before the launch. The initiatives come amid ETH trading near $1,600, down ~67% from its 2025 peak, while Bitcoin is down 53% from its peak. The nonprofits aim to provide a neutral front door for institutions, with priorities including institutional engagement, market intelligence, marketing, research, and events. Standard Chartered's Geoff Kendrick called the launches important for Ethereum's commercialization, as TradFi enters at scale. Tom Lee of BitMine has floated a long-term ETH target of $250,000, betting on tokenization driving institutional onchain activity.
