Anthropic's Mythos Successor Emerges from Training Amid Export Suspension

According to AI observer Andrew Curran, Anthropic has completed training on a more powerful successor to its Mythos model, potentially named Mythos 5.1 or Mythos 6. The company has not confirmed its existence or release plans. This development comes nine days after the U.S. Commerce Department ordered Anthropic to suspend deployment of Mythos 5 and Fable 5, citing national security risks. The suspension was triggered by a reported bypass method for Fable 5's safeguards, which Anthropic called narrow but acknowledged could impact future launches. Despite the suspension, Curran argues that halting deployment does not impede progress and may accelerate it by freeing resources. The successor's path remains uncertain—whether Anthropic releases it publicly, restricts it to its cybersecurity program Project Glasswing, or keeps it internal could shape the AI race. Anthropic continues to seek reversal of the export controls and has not commented on the latest developments.
