Anthropic and Sarvam AI Share Major Investors Across Continents
Anthropic, the US-based AI lab behind Claude, and India's Sarvam AI are linked by common investors despite operating on different continents. Lightspeed Venture Partners led Anthropic's $3.5 billion Series E in March 2025, valuing it at $61.5 billion, and also holds equity, preference shares, and convertible debentures in Axonwise Private Limited, the legal entity of Sarvam AI, which recently raised $234 million at a $1.5 billion valuation. General Catalyst, another backer of Anthropic and Mistral AI, entered India via its 2024 acquisition of Venture Highway, whose fund holds convertible debentures in Sarvam. Additionally, Khosla Ventures, OpenAI's first VC investor, holds equity and preference shares in Sarvam. These overlapping investors highlight the concentration of AI funding, with the same firms influencing which labs scale globally, from San Francisco to Bengaluru, though the shared backers do not imply direct collaboration between the AI developers.
